DoxyPEP / PrEP / PEP
Truesdale Medical Center is happy to provide multiple services to help prevent STIs and HIV. We currently offer DoxyPEP, PrEP, and PEP services.
What is DoxyPEP?
DoxyPEP has proven effective against bacterial STDs when taken 24 hours after unprotected sex. Research has shown that this can reduce the possibility of contracting chlamydia by 88%, syphilis by 87%, and gonorrhea by 55%.
The recommended treatment population for DoxyPEP includes gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM), as well as transgender women (TGW). Specifically, DoxyPEP is primarily advised for individuals who have engaged in condomless sex with one or more partners and have had a sexually transmitted infection in the past year.
Similar to the morning-after pill, DoxyPEP works best immediately after exposure, with the best results being 24 to 72 hours after condomless sex. Upon being prescribed DoxyPEP, patients should follow up with their healthcare provider every three months after exposure to get regular tests conducted. Not only is this to catch potential dormant sexually transmitted diseases, but it is also meant to catch potential reinfections promptly.
